Pores can look enlarged around the nose, cheeks and forehead for very different reasons. Sebum and keratin plugs may stretch their appearance; loss of elasticity may make cheek pores more visible; and some apparent pores are actually shallow acne scars. At a Korean dermatology consultation, identifying the pattern first is more useful than buying a generic full-face pore package.
1. Four common patterns that can all look like enlarged pores
| Appearance and accompanying issues | Likely driver | What to assess | Avoid this shortcut |
|---|---|---|---|
| Oily T-zone with blackheads and closed comedones | Sebum and keratin plugs make pores look more prominent | Active acne, cleansing routine and history of topical medication | Using high-energy resurfacing alone while new comedones continue to form |
| Orange-peel texture on the cheeks that worsens with age or sun exposure | Decreased dermal support and elasticity | Skin thickness, location of laxity and risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation | Treat ordinary hydrating injections as collagen remodeling |
| Irregular depressions next to visible pores | May include shallow boxcar or rolling acne scars | Presence of fibrous traction, scar depth and shape | Calling every depression a pore and using one device for all of them |
| Pores look worse when the skin is dry and makeup catches | Dehydration of the stratum corneum accentuates texture | Barrier condition, sensitivity and recent exfoliation or energy-based treatment | Stacking microneedling, strong acids and high energy while the barrier is unstable |
The American Academy of Dermatology’s basic recommendations for visible pores include gentle cleansing, using products that won’t clog pores, and discussing salicylic acid or retinoids, depending on your skin type. Vitamin A products should not be used by oneself during pregnancy or lactation. When you have redness, swelling, dermatitis or damaged barrier, you should first treat the inflammation instead of rushing to “shrink pores”.

2. POTENZA RF microneedling: the tip, depth and mode matter more than the package name

RF microneedling combines controlled needle penetration with radiofrequency energy delivered at a selected depth. It may be used for certain pore patterns, acne scars and textural remodeling. It is not a dermaroller and it does not automatically inject a skin-booster solution. POTENZA uses different tips and modes, so a quote that only says ‘one POTENZA session’ is incomplete.
Research shows that RF microneedling can improve some pores and skin texture, but the results are related to the location, skin thickness, energy and frequency. Excessive sebum on the nose, decreased elasticity of the cheeks, and acne scars all respond differently, so we cannot promise to “tighten all pores at once.”
3. Fractional picosecond treatment: the lens array is the key, not simply the word ‘picosecond’

‘Honeycomb picosecond’ usually describes a picosecond laser fitted with a fractional lens array that creates many microscopic treatment zones. This is not the same specification as a conventional pigment-toning mode. Confirm the device, wavelength, MLA or equivalent fractional lens, treatment area and number of shots or passes.
Research on Asian skin tones shows that 1064nm fractional picosecond laser can improve visible pores after multiple treatments; when compared with 1565nm non-ablative fractional therapy, both may be effective, with differences in specific pain and risk of pigmentation. It is more suitable to discuss for people who are also concerned about superficial texture, pigmentation or shallow acne scars, but rolling acne scars with obvious fibrous traction may still require structural treatment such as subcutaneous dissection.
4. Skin boosters and regenerative injectables: smoother-looking skin is not the same as closing pores
Hyaluronic-acid skin boosters mainly improve hydration, so dryness-related texture and makeup caking may improve temporarily. REJURAN and Skin Juvelook have different ingredients, injection planes and indications. None can permanently close a sebaceous opening or replace the dermal remodeling created by RF microneedling or fractional energy treatment.
If a package says ‘POTENZA plus skin booster,’ ask whether the product is injected manually, delivered with an injector, assisted by a POTENZA pumping tip, or only applied topically after treatment. Depth, dose and risk differ across these four routes.
5. Korean pore-treatment prices: compare like-for-like specifications
| Clinic and published package | Specification | reference price | What to confirm |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cheongdam It’s Me Dermatology Clinic | One POTENZA RF microneedling session | 200,000 won | Confirm tip, area, anesthesia and tax when booking |
| Serene Dermatology Clinic | Pore tip + exosomes 5 cc + LDM | 369,000 won | A combination package; not directly comparable with RF microneedling alone |
| Serene Dermatology Clinic | Pumping tip + JOA skin booster 3 cc + LDM | 399,000 won | Includes the pumping tip and stated product volume |
| Cheongdam ELEV Dermatology Clinic | POTENZA CP probe + Juvelook 4cc | 650,000 won | Confirm the Juvelook product line, CP tip and whether VAT is additional |
| Cheongdam ELEV Dermatology Clinic | POTENZA CP tip + Juvelook 4 cc + Aqua Peel | 700,000 won | Adds basic cleansing care to the package above |
These are examples of publicly listed, page-checked specifications that show how quotes are constructed; they are not permanent prices. Eligibility, VAT, the tip and the actual treatment area should be confirmed in writing before booking.
6. What does recovery usually look like?
| time | Typical after RF microneedling | Typical after fractional picosecond treatment | Care priorities |
|---|---|---|---|
| Treatment day | Redness, burning, pinpricks, or slight swelling | Redness, heat sensation, and small dot-like reactions in some modes | Clean gently according to the clinic’s instructions; do not rub or use exfoliating acids |
| 1~3 days | The redness gradually decreases, and some people have small scabs or dryness. | Dry, slightly rough, or temporary color change | Moisturize and use sun protection; do not pick scabs or use scrubs or retinol |
| 1 to 4 weeks | Texture improvement occurs gradually and often requires observation based on treatment sessions | Tone and texture change gradually; do not judge the result by same-day shine | Wait until the skin has stabilized before the next energy-based treatment |
7. How to read before-and-after cases without overinterpreting them

Check that the images show the same person at a comparable angle and lighting, then verify the treatment, number of sessions, interval and follow-up date. Retouching, exposure and makeup can exaggerate pore differences. This is a genuine overall-skin case, not a POTENZA or picosecond-laser case.
8. Clinics matched to the treatment question

Serene Clinic Seongsu
The clinic presents pores and acne scars as a staged-care category and lists combinations involving POTENZA, MiraJet, LDM and focal scar treatment. This can suit patients who first need to distinguish visible pores from acne scars before choosing a single or staged plan.

ELEV Clinic Cheongdam
The clinic publishes a specific POTENZA CP-tip and Juvelook 4 cc package, which helps patients compare the tip, product volume and add-on care separately.

It’s Me Clinic Cheongdam
The clinic publishes a base price for a single POTENZA session, allowing patients to discuss the device alone before deciding whether an injectable product is appropriate.

Can one RF microneedling session make pores disappear?
No. Pores cannot be permanently closed. The degree of improvement depends on the cause, area, tip, settings and skin response; visible acne scars often require classification and a staged plan.
Are picosecond toning and a fractional picosecond treatment the same?
No. A fractional picosecond treatment uses an MLA or comparable lens array and has different treatment zones and goals from standard pigment-toning mode. Confirm the device, wavelength, lens and area.
For enlarged pores, should I start with a skin booster or RF microneedling?
If dehydration and roughness dominate, stabilize the barrier and discuss hydration first. Loss of elasticity or shallow acne scars may be better suited to structural treatment such as RF microneedling. Active inflammation or barrier damage may require postponing either treatment.
Can RF microneedling and fractional picosecond treatment be done on the same day?
They should not be combined automatically. Both can irritate the skin; whether to separate them depends on skin tone, inflammation, settings and hyperpigmentation risk. A conservative schedule is often preferable for first-time or sensitive patients.
This article provides general medical information and does not replace a dermatologist’s consultation. Visible pores, acne scars, active acne and pigmentation may coexist, so treatment should be based on the skin findings, skin tone and available recovery time.
