Medical Interpreters at Korean Aesthetic Clinics: A Consultation Checklist

A Seoul Metropolitan Government update on its September 2026 medical-tourism event said Seoul received 1.76 million foreign-patient visits in the previous year. An interpreter who speaks your language can make a consultation easier, but language support alone does not guarantee that the medical details have been understood. Seoul Metropolitan Government.

Before paying, identify who is advising you, who is translating, who is making the medical decision and who will perform the treatment. Get the device model, number of shots, injectable product and dose, total fee, risks and follow-up plan in writing.

1. Who is speaking—and who makes the medical decision?

2. For devices, record the model, treatment area and shot count

Thermage FLX device: verify the model and shot count.
Ultherapy Prime device photograph
Ultherapy Prime device: confirm the transducer and treatment area.

“Thermage” or “Ultherapy” alone is not a complete quotation. Ask for the exact model, face or neck area, number of shots, tip or transducer, and treating doctor. As of September 2026, indicative public Korean prices were about KRW 1.5–2.6 million for 600 facial Thermage FLX shots and KRW 0.8–1.5 million for 300 facial Ultherapy shots. Promotions, VAT and anaesthesia may change the total.

Useful request: “Please write the full device name, model, treatment area and actual shot count on my quotation, and let me confirm the count afterward.”

3. For injectables, record the brand, product line and amount

Rejuran product range photograph
Rejuran product family: specify the exact variant.
Xeomin product photograph
Xeomin botulinum toxin: record the dose in units.

Hyaluronic acid and Rejuran are often described in cc or mL; botulinum toxin is recorded in units (U). For Juvelook, ask which product line and vial specification is used, the dilution volume and the amount actually administered. Diluted volume alone is not a meaningful comparison.

A public Korean price reference for Rejuran Healer (“black box”), 2 cc, was roughly KRW 200,000–450,000 in September 2026. Before an injection, check the sealed package, exact variant, lot and expiry. Record toxin brand, total units and treated areas—not just “one vial”.

4. Five phrases that need a more precise explanation

  1. “No downtime”: ask about swelling, bruising, crusting or tenderness and how long each may last.
  2. “Almost no risk”: ask which warning signs are serious and whom to contact.
  3. “Any doctor is fine”: confirm the names of both the consulting and treating doctors.
  4. “Combining treatments works better”: ask why, in what order, and whether recovery changes.
  5. “The offer ends today”: a promotion is no substitute for informed consent or time to decide.
Tell the doctor—not only the interpreter—about allergies, pregnancy or breastfeeding, prior fillers or threads, medication, cold sores, recent sun exposure and past adverse reactions.

Frequently asked questions

Can I accept a package suggested by an interpreter?

Use it as a price and logistics reference, but have the doctor confirm indications, treatment order and risks. Get the specifications and refund terms in writing.

Is a one-sentence summary of a Korean-speaking doctor enough?

Not for diagnosis, contraindications, risks, alternatives or serious warning signs. Ask for a complete translation, point by point.

What if the in-clinic price differs from the quote?

Check whether the model, shot count, dose, area, doctor and tax are the same. Pause before treatment if any key item changed.

How can I check a translated treatment name?

Match the local name to the English brand or model and the exact name on the package or device.
